Gubble 2 is a maze puzzle game released on PC in 1999. Unlike its predecessor, it was never ported to consoles and is unavailable on any digital store. Years ago I stumbled upon it in a Circuit City - a giant box with a single paper-sleeved CD. I remember my excitement that an obscure shareware game had gotten a sequel (and was being sold in real stores I visited), and the cascade of discomfort, confusion, and anger which followed.

Nearly two decades later I still have that original copy, scratched to hell and back but nevertheless having survived. It is a game I do not love but which has imprinted itself upon me. For better or worse, Gubble 2 left an impression. Returning to it for this project, I have tried to disentangle these feelings, somehow just as fresh as if playing for the first time.
